Come train in person

A Chicago school for steady, serious practice.

Tai Chi is a low-impact internal martial art practiced through smoothly connected postures. Together, we work on balance, coordination, relaxed strength, concentration, and breathing while learning the applications behind the form.

Why Tai Chi?

Balance in motion. Practice that builds.

Already practise yoga or Pilates? Tai Chi offers a different emphasis: continuous standing movement, controlled weight shifts, and martial applications, with no mat or machine needed. We work on these skills together in class and return to them in home practice.

Evidence for balance

In a randomized trial of 670 adults aged 70 and older at high risk of falling, a tailored Tai Ji Quan program produced fewer falls than stretching or a combined exercise program. Classes met twice weekly for 24 weeks. Read the study (JAMA, 2018).

Regular, guided practice

In a trial of 226 adults with fibromyalgia, supervised Yang-style Tai Chi over 24 weeks improved symptom-impact scores more than 12 weeks. Participants were encouraged to practise at home. Read the study (BMJ, 2018).

Bring your questions to class, apply corrections, and practise consistently at a comfortable pace.

These studies did not compare Tai Chi with yoga or Pilates, and do not establish that it is better for everyone. They studied specific populations and programs, not our classes. Results vary; classes are not medical treatment. Discuss health limitations with your clinician and me.
